Don’t Let Them Suck You Into Their Drama

Narcissists often create self-centered drama to attract attention and draw others into their world. It’s a common tactic they use.

For example, Jesus understood the danger from His narcissistic enemies—the Pharisees—who aimed to distract Him from His mission. When they tested Him, He engaged with them but refused to let them become the focus of His work.

Instead, He shared His broader perspective with His disciples: “Let them [the Pharisees] alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” Matt 15:14.

“Let them alone” aligns with the idea of “low contact,” which depends on the nature of the relationship. Jesus chose not to focus on the Pharisees because they didn’t see a need for change and weren’t genuinely open to His message (except for a few).

When the Pharisees subtly criticized Jesus for ministering to tax collectors and sinners, He responded by continuing His work, even as many tax collectors and sinners came to dine with Him and His disciples.

Let them have their drama on their own time and in their own space, and don’t let them waste your time and life by drawing you in!
