Passion Week- Tuesday Encouragement- “What Do You Want?”

Jesus, the teacher, asks questions that can be both inviting and uncomfortable. In the Gospel of John, Jesus’ first words are a question. He asks you, just as He did with two eager disciples who enthusiastically boarded the John the Baptist train and began to follow Him.
Jesus turns around and pointedly asks them: “What do you want?”
John 1:38 states, “Jesus looked around and saw them following. ‘ What do you want?’ he asked them…” This question lies beneath almost every other question that Jesus poses to each of us.
Why do we find joy in being the center of attention? Is it related to the Kingdom of God? Why do we often resist change? Could this resistance be tied to the Kingdom of God or perhaps the smaller realm of self?
True righteousness takes root when we reach the limits of our abilities and blossoms when we finally come to understand our limitations. The beauty of the Kingdom of God’s call is that it humbles us, brings us to our knees, and leads us to a profound realization: “I want to, but I can’t.”
This journey will lead you to your Redeemer, guiding you toward His grace, enveloping you in His love, revealing His wisdom, and connecting you with His power. It will inspire you to push beyond what you thought possible, prompting you to say, “The standard is too high; it’s too great; God, help me.”
That’s where true righteousness begins. When you feel overwhelmed by God’s call, you’re in a spiritually nourishing place.
