Why Reacting vs. Responding Feels Hard

Why Reacting vs. Responding Feels Hard

Many of us react rather than respond when we feel triggered.

A hurtful comment might tap into unresolved pain, fear, or insecurity, causing our defenses to go up.

Other times, we’re simply overwhelmed and lack the emotional margin to pause and think before speaking.

But reacting doesn’t solve the problem. It usually intensifies it, leading to more misunderstandings, deeper wounds, and fractured relationships.

Learning to respond wisely, rather than reacting, requires a shift in mindset and practice, but it’s worth it!
